Fax jamming

The chief executive officers of corporations such as the Royal Bank of Canada, Noranda and Bell Canada Enterprises had their fax machines hijacked last Tuesday by the Post-Graduate Students Society (PGSS) at McGill University.

As part of a week-long series of protests against fee increases slated for the coming year, the PGSS continually faxed a letter of protest to these CEOs and others, all of whom are members of the university's Board of Governors.

Among the more drastic measures, McGill intends to increase the additional-session fees for graduate students from $416 to $1668. "The additional revenue is a drop in the bucket for McGill," says Anna Kruzynski, VP University Affairs for the PGSS, "but it will hit us in our grocery budgets."

The campaign culminates Wednesday, April 2 at 1 p.m. with a march on the James Administration Building. Protesters will meet at the Roddick Gates on the corner of McGill College and Sherbrooke.
