SNFU interview Sno Jam tour mates Ten Days Late!
by MARK BELKE special to the Mirror
Vancouver punk rock legends SNFU have been fielding really bad questions from pimply fanzine writers and jaded old music hacks for over 10 years. Truth be told, they've been asked the question, "What are your influences?" more times than they've heard "Would you like fries with that?" So SNFU guitarist Mark Belke decided to try his hand on the other side of the question-table with fellow Vancouver punks, Sno Jam tour-mates and all-girl band Ten Days Late as the victims. Taking time out from real interviews plugging their new album Sticky Flypaper (on 2112 Records), Ten Days Late singer Renée had to endure a bunch of the most typically mundane questions Belke's long experience could think up.
SNFU: When you're on tour, do you ever get a chance to see much of the cities you're in?
Ten Days Late: Well, we stopped in Bakersville and got to see an oversized egg.
SNFU: Was it ovulating?
TDL: What?
SNFU: Never mind! Do you have any tattoos?
TDL: No, but our guitarist has one.
SNFU: Do people have any preconceived notions about your band?
TDL: Oh yeah! [laughing] The biggest one I guess is that we're all dykes and that the whole band sleeps together.
SNFU: What are your songs about?
TDL: Well, we have a song called "Helicopter Head" about these Spanish heavy metal guys who showed up to our show and...[probing interviewer cuts her off in typical journalistic fashion]
SNFU: So! Do you guys skateboard?
TDL: Our bass player does.
SNFU: Have you guys done any snowboarding yet on the Sno Jam tour?
TDL: No, not yet. I guess they might as well have called it Breakdance Jam.
SNFU: Yeah, or maybe Jazzercise Jam. Any funny tour stories?
TDL: Actually, I had a stalker at last night's show.
SNFU: Oh yeah! I passed on his note to you. I guess that makes me a stalker personals service. Anyway! Last question. What are your influences?
TDL: Umm... Black Sabbath and Huey Lewis and the News!
SNFU and Ten Days Late perform at Sno Jam '97 with Satanic Surfers, MXPX, Bodyjar and Straight Faced on Tuesday, April 1 at Le Medley, as part of the Sno Jam tour. Tickets $15. Doors open at 6pm
