Anglos neededThe Red Cross may not want gay men to apply, but the Omega cohort does. Launched last August, the survey was set up to investigate how and why gay and bisexual men contract HIV. Omega, organized by a group of local AIDS educators, physicians and gay and lesbian activists, aims to have 2,000 HIV-negative men on board by the end of the year. The men will then be monitored via regular interviews--some will inevitably seroconvert and researchers will have a better understanding of exactly why some men slip up and practice unsafe sex. The Omega Cohort currently has 600 participants; they need more and say anglophone men are underrepresented in the study. To join the Omega Cohort phone Patrick or Christine at 528-8565.
