This first line might as well be the sun, ’cuz everything under it is gonna be hot this coming week. The West Island catches a double dose of hip hop to get the weekend started. Tonight, July 22, K103’s Street Sounds and Real City Countdown present West Is Major at Bourbon Street West. Mic controllers Krazy K, Mr. Wellz, Side C, Commodore 84 and Salez all get down, with host Don Smooth checking back intermittently on-air with Nick Fury.

Dorval gets theirs on Friday at MacAllans, inside Golf-O-Max (admittedly, not the flyest-sounding of spots), as local designers Innovative Motion hold their second annual I.M. Fly clothing launch. This year’s BOM third-spot holders Underground Realroad head west to share the stage with SRH and other guests.

Back downtown that night, Get Nice’s Cosmo invites Halifax’s Double A to get twice as nice over at Blizzarts, in proper Maritime fashion.

A few blocks up on St-Denis, also on Friday, will the sheer human mass that is the Franco Proietti Morph-Tet fit on the humble stage of Quai des Brumes? We’ll see, but I can tell you with certainty that there isn’t a room big enough in the city for the soulful voice, music and presence of their guest Athena Holmes. Also on the bill is Audrey Emery. Saturday, at Club Lambi, Pressure Drop Montreal’s resident selectors Mossman and Aaron Maiden welcome their Toronto bredren Chuck Boom, Morningside 116 and Guv’nor General. The above shall surely get wicked regarding all matters upstroked and bass-heavy.

Ready to collapse? Good news. Ninja Tune’s Sud-West is back at Terrasse St-Ambroise on Tuesday evening, following last month’s disappointing rain-out. Ghostbeard and Poirier are therefore extra glad to invite you to chill with a drink and a dog, with beats on them, as always. If we can’t have everything under the sun, let’s hope we can soak these rays up.
