[Re: “Best of Montreal Readers Poll 2010,” Cover, May 13] It’s too bad Fidel Fuentes was no longer among the activist loud mouths. He is still someone that Montreal ought to pay attention to and he is still relevant regardless of what others may think, vote or say. For shame Montreal, for shame!!

Not so shameless

[Re: “Best of Montreal Readers Poll 2010,” Cover, May 13] Thanks for the big ups to Tiana + Joseph. But why were we called “shamelessly self-promoting?”

1. If you think all self-promotion is shameless, then why include this gratuitous and redundant epithet?

2. If you think that only some self-promotion is shameless, what’s shameless about asking your friends to vote for you? It’s not like we walked down the Main wearing sandwich boards. We promoted a handful of our other newcomer friends as well.

We’ve really enjoyed our three years in Montreal and are honoured to have been featured in your Best Of list.

Also, there is more info about Les Walkyries (#3 on Best Busker) here: myspace.com/leswalkyries. Besides having crazy dirty Franco-circus loft parties, these three women spin fire and busk globally. They just returned from a tour in Mexico.

The Wajcer Whammy

[Re: “Hitler’s little helpers,” Letters, May 13] Dropping the verbal equivalent of a nuclear bomb, Simon Wajcer not only annihilated his opponents but also vaporized the entire Israel-Palestine debate. In what future historians will refer to as the legendary Wajcer Whammy, the festering Palestine question was abruptly terminated when brilliantly exposed as a charade masking perennial Jew-hatred. This devastating game-changer is a lethal three-pronged combination: Goyim critics of Zionism are anti-Semites, Jewish ones want to be loved by everyone, and Israel’s misdeeds are sometimes exceeded by dictatorships.

A new era has dawned. We can finally stop talking about Israel’s 43-year occupation, illegal settlements, land confiscations, home demolitions, assassinations, use of phosphorous bombs on civilians, kidnapping of elected parliamentarians, torture, ethnic cleansing and collective punishment. All we now have to do is convince Palestinians—and the rest of the world.

Finally, my response to being called a “dog” by Mr. Wajcer is an emphatic...WOOF!

Thank you Montreal Mirror for your objectivity and neutrality. If I may, I would like to nominate Simon Wajcer for an honorary Ken Frankel Dipshit Award for last week’s valuable lesson on how to behave like a good gentile.

And while I’m at it, a shout-out to John Dirlik, Shirley Groves, Samir Omer, Patrice Bombardier et al. for having the conviction to say what’s on their minds and step out of the crowd.

We can’t deny that horrors are being committed in many places in the world, but for Zionists to deflect what’s happening in Israel with other atrocities isn’t quite the same. The janjaweed in Darfur aren’t here on the radio, TV and newspapers defending and justifying their “virtues” to everyone. And the sympathy card is getting tired.

What about
Palestine’s crimes?

[Re: “Decreasing ant-Semitism,” Letters, April 22] Samir Omer wrote “not all Jews are callous Zionists who support Israel’s crimes” (in response to Mira Khazzam’s letter) as if no crimes are done by Palestinians. What a loaded anti-Semitic statement. Most of these crimes have been proven to be totally fabricated, as discussed by people of integrity forcing apologies.

Then I put to Samir, how can anyone believe any are true? Zionists are those people who want a homeland in Israel, the land of “The people of the Book,” as Moslems used to call the Jews in respect to the old testament, which is incorporated in the Koran. So I put it to him, doesn’t this mean that the Palestinians are Zionists? After all, they want all of Israel for themselves—Hamas said it well when they wanted to kick all of the Jews into the sea. Abbas doesn’t even have the guts to recognize Israel as a first step for peace negotiations. Which begs to wonder who they want peace with? An entity?

Until shown otherwise, I put to him that there is no peace because of anti-Semitism.
