Horns a-plenty

by DARCY MACDONALD

I don’t know what you had planned to get your weekend started, but whatever it was, just put it out of mind and focus deeply, very deeply, on getting horny. Chicago’s Hypnotic Brass Ensemble is coming through to lay the pipe down—hard—at le National on Friday, March 19. The somewhat eponymous nine-piece, who define their style as “now music”, have worked with an impressive list of talent. They are currently catching shine for their role in the new Gorillaz record, particularly the track with Snoop. On hand to lube things up nice will be Nomadic Massive, plus Scott C and Paris’s Paulo Superfly Goncalves on the wheels. Lovers of true grit ought not to miss it.

The same goes for Saturday, although the tone gets a little more polite. Back from his goodwill mission to NYC and with a fresh set of intercontinental affairs to attend to, native son and true patriot Twitch still finds time to attend to his civic duty, setting up for week three in his tenure of public office at Klinik, on the Main at Bernard. Alongside diplomatic relations officer rAz and a rotating cabinet of foreign dignitaries (this week’s guest is Terry Tilldawn), Klinik Saturdays pledges to deliver a dancefloor message of unity among all soul beats and soul beat lovers, regardless of genre, defying stereotypes in music or personality. All you gotta do, party member, is dance.

Then again, sometimes you bump into the Real City Bully and all hell breaks loose. If you wanna step, find out for yourself. Magnum 357 is serving up fresh hometown hood-rap for free with the Revolver Muzik Vol.3 mixtape, hosted by DJs Woogie & Critical Hype. Whether you love or hate gangsta rap, there is honesty and cleverness to this guy’s work that is nice to come by in any good hip hop music. Cop it at http://tinyurl.com/yeswsko.
