Kick off the weekend tonight, Jan. 28, with a throwback to the Ed Banger craze days as hip hop mangler Krazy Baldhead lays that garbled, groovy French touch down at le Belmont.

This climatically taxing phase of the winter always seems to elicit a few good tropical beat nights, perhaps out of nostalgia for the warmer times. To wit, local cumbia crew Sonido Nordico bust out the big Latin jams this Friday at Cosy. Likewise, the Masala Sono tribe are hosting a huge international bass throwdown at Lambi on Friday, featuring a long list of DJs set to lay out jams from dub to kuduro, all as a benefit for Haiti-based womens’ charity Kay Fanm, the founder of which, Magalie Marcelin, sadly died during the quake. In case you missed it last time, a new bi-weekly night devoted to heavy low-end jams called Cosmic Bass Musica has recently kicked off at Il Motore—this Friday, the guest DJ is Bus.

Not to be confused with a group of angst-ridden Internet dweebs of the same name who spend their Saturday afternoons protesting Scientology on Mont-Royal and Papineau wearing V for Vendetta masks, Anonymous is an upcoming night presented by infamous local bacchanalia brokers Cirque de Boudoir. The concept is simple and devious—hide your identity, go to a celebration of kink and sensuality, and see if you keep your pants on. It strikes my imagination as being somewhere between the “deviance in the dark” study and Eyes Wide Shut, minus the super-rich and the whores, of course. That’s at Katacombes on Saturday night.

And finally, Toronto-based purveyors of big, bassy, brainless party hits AutoErotique present their masturbatory delights to all the lads and ladies at le Belmont on Saturday.
