Blue bulls and red dogs

by MORGAN STEIKER

Remember drum & bass? Yeah, don’t front, you used to love it and you’re still bumping it on the low when no one is around. But c’mon, don’t hide, guys. It’s all good. We all loved it at some point and some of us genuinely miss it at times. That’s why I’ll be at Café Campus on Friday night to catch Mayday, an emblematic figure of Junglist Fridays (RIP), tear it down like it’s 2003. Generic, Qubic MC, Golgo13 and Vilify are also on deck so come shuffle with the homies.

Same night, Salon Officiel is hosting the launch party of What-Up Gangstars (what-up-gangstars.com), a new lifestyle blog dedicated to putting you on. I know what you’re thinking. “My lawd, not another blawg!” But we do need good ones in Montreal, so let’s hope we get our fix here. Figure 8, Funky Falz and le Pigeon take care of tunes for the night.

Also Friday, Poirier, Lunice and Ango are gonna have a chance to celebrate. Reason? Their upcoming trip to the Red Bull Academy in London. The send-off party is going down at the SAT so come through to give our hometown playas a pat on the back before they go off to rep the city over in the Old World. You should also wrap up the night (or start it off) at Jupiter Room with West Coast boaster Filthy Varmint, NDG’s own Orion Revolution and young jocks Lyrical Assault.

Saturday night, two of the best live hip hop acts in the city are on the same bill, and truth be told, you’d be a fool to miss it. A.O.T. Live is joining forces with Nomadic Massive to rock the speakers at les Bobards. Same time, down the street at Blue Dog, Fool’s Gold’s newest recruit Kingdom throws down a hot and heavy set that, from what I’ve heard, will get the ladies drippin’. With local residents Truspin, Rilly Guilty and Tronald Trump. Touchdown!
