Disco Volante

Fare thee well

By JACK OATMON

I can’t say I’ve been a Parking regular lately. But there was a time, long before the main club room got moved downstairs, during the halcyon days of $2.50 Jäger shots and Boreal, MySpace profiles, infinite remixes of Digitalism’s “Zdarlight” and neck kerchiefs, when I went to Parking nearly every single Thursday night for DJ Mini’s Overdose. It has long been a staple event for electrohouse artists far and near, a constant source of good bookings and frequently a chance for smaller, local DJs to try their hands at larger audiences. This Thursday marks the final edition of Mini’s night, and given the fabulous, delirious times we’ve all had there, I feel the need to salute Overdose. Huzzah!

Another club night obit to address this week. Teenwolf, formerly the Peer Pressure Funky Fieldtrip and some other names, too, has been the Tuesday-night source for all things new wavey, crunky, hyphy, new jack swingin’ and otherwise at Blizzarts for three years now. They wind down Tuesday, Dec. 15, with all the original cast members on hand—A-Rock, Hatchmatik, Gregular, Merk Meny, Shaydakiss and DL. Big thanks to them for a lot of Tuesday-night after-work beers turned into five-hour benders over the years!

In other entertainment news, Brooklyn drum & bass and dubstep producer Lion Dub visits Passeport tonight, Thursday, Dec. 10, while U.K. deep house guy Simon Baker visits Salon Daomé on Tuesday, Dec. 15 for a set at Microzoo, along with resident Clifford Brown.

My last order of business this week is our good friend New Year’s Eve. I’m still in the process of canvassing what’s going on, and I’d like all you funky animals out there to give me a shout about your plans, at my e-mail listed below. I’m curious about everything from dance parties to art shows to dinner parties to crazy swinger sex bonanzas!
