After recently losing its home, the missed-but-not-forgotten Bat Cave of bass and rattle known as Zoobizarre, Masala Sono is moving into a new casa, Club Lambi. This is welcome news for those who long for something different, refreshing, and new to discover on our nightly escapades. First known as Baile MTL, then Boomboxx, and now Masala Sono, the fixture cooked up by Bendude, ECP, Jeune Premier and Valeo (formerly Khiasma), the radio DJs behind CISM’s always fruitful radio show Masala, will reside in the right place to keep putting us on to Third World musical sub-genres and below-the-radar movements like baile, kompa, cumbia-crunk and countless others waiting to make it to our speakers. Lambi will be a good home for the night and I look forward to a long run for these guys. In its latest edition, the night will serve as a benefit and fundraiser for Jeune Premier’s social soundsystem project in Mali, which you can find more info for at projetdanbe.com. As a first step, the main goal is to collect enough funds to purchase sound and video equipment and create an official NGO. The night will also feature Quebec’s pioneering MC Boogat, Poirier’s partner-in-crime Face-T and the Riddim Wise Sound crew. Come through tonight for a good time and be ready to lose some calories.
Also tonight is Mosaics, a new project helmed by DMC champion DJ Mana featuring some of the best hip hop artists in Montreal, happening at le Belmont. It will feature Mana alongside Killa Jewel, John Rist, Zardak, Sir Bastard, Johnny Know One, D-Shade, Orion Re-Evolution and Lady Catalyst, and opening sets by DJ Brace, Adam L and Poontz. This event will be celebrated in the spirit and memory of the late Simon Lortie, a good friend and important member of Montreal’s cultural scene.
LOVE AND RESPECT, WE MISS YOU…
