Frozen years: In the old days, frozen food was a space age novelty, so there was no pressure on its makers for it to in any way resemble anything actually identifiable as “food”—instead, they created the TV Dinner, which somehow could combine meat, potatoes, a miscellaneous vegetable, their sauces and a hideous, misshapen dessert into a flat package glazed in psychedelic product photographs. This gallery from the Miami New Times food blog features some of the most… interesting examples, including one with soup in it. Imagine the mess at bit.ly/3PE4bh. Aloha Mr. Hand: Real sweet conversion vans didn’t die out with Cheech and Chong movies and Rush concept albums. In fact, German tuning haus Brabus has turned a new chapter in the vannin’ book with its Viano Lounge Concept, a tuned, lowered, Turbo-diesel-powered party-on-wheels that teutonically includes a complete office suite. There’s a PS3, but no waterbed and the carpet is a modest pile, not full-on shag at bit.ly/2llz3r. |
