Action and retraction |
By JACK OATMON
I’m never sure if it’s a clever visual artist’s quasi-ironic portrayal of party culture, or the most frightening and distended manifestation of Western consumerism since suburbs. Either way, Bronques of the outrageously popular blog lastnightsparty.com produces irresistible images and has an astounding penchant for coercing lads in colourful baseball caps and slinky waifs in tube tops to shake their asses and let their titties hang out for no better reason than that they might be the slut of the week on the Internet. He’ll be at le Belmont on Friday night with a few quality local house and techno DJs. To keep the voyeuristic, arty vibe rolling Friday, also note that at 6250 Hutchinson, on the 4th floor, photographer Neil Mota will be having a vernissage followed by a late night loft dance party featuring local DJs Jordan Dare, Mad Kids, Kiffah, Simply Complicated and Cristobal Urbina. Expect heavy bass and lulling, dubwise beats. Also, keep in mind that Moby plays Metropolis on Saturday night. Perhaps he’ll even show up this time. On Tuesday, those in the Southwest will be treated to a final fair-weather jam at Terrasse St. Ambroise, featuring mixing by Ghostbeard and Ghislain Poirier. And, on Wednesday, as Pop kicks into gear, that cutesy synthpop couple Matt and Kim, who put on a fabulous live show, appear at Club Lambi at midnight along with Brooklyn’s wonky hip hop tech experimenters Ninjasonik. And finally, an important retraction. Last week I mistakenly reported that Panthère Noire was done for, when in fact they just got a new sign and new name (just the address now, 3519 St-Laurent), changed around some of the nights and changed the decor. A big apology to everyone over there. I thought it was an entirely different operation. CONTROL ALT DELETE, RINSE, REPEAT…jack.oatmon@gmail.com |
