ANSWERED
PRAYER RECALL

God has made His attitude toward idolatry pretty clear, but it seems people still have trouble understanding exactly what He meant, and the problem is only exacerbated by Catholic iconography. Sometimes, though, the Lord likes to try and set things straight, in this case using 45-year-old Günther Link to do it.

Trapped in an elevator in Vienna, Austria, Link, a devout Catholic, panicked and began praying for God to help him in his time of incidental trouble. When Link was freed not long after, he decided to immediately go give thanks to God at the Weinhaus Church. Rather than humbly bow his head and utter quiet appreciation, though, Link threw his grateful arms around a pillar atop which sat an 860-pound stone altar, at which point the Lord tooketh away in grand fashion.

“He seems to have embraced a stone pillar on which the altar was perched,” explained police spokesman Roman Hahslinger. “It fell on him, killing him instantly.”

Link was reported missing by his cousin sometime after being freed from his elevator prison, but wasn’t found until the next day when parishioners of the Weinhaus Church showed up for Mass.
