Triple decade
establishment

This week’s gonna be a visual one for us, with nothing but sweet nectar for your corneas in the shape of three different and exciting events that would be a shame to miss. Meeting of Styles, the humble yet fruitful graffiti event that is now running on its fourth year, has cooked up a feast for us this weekend with the reunion of legendary New York City crew the Cool 5ive, more commonly seen on walls as TC5. Pioneering forces in the graffiti world, artists Seen, Beam, Juice, Doc, Doze, Lady Pink and others made legions of up-and-comers and art enthusiasts daydream about their subway cars-turned-canvases back in the early ’80s. Now celebrating their 30th anniversary, the crew will be at the Underworld shop (251 Ste-Catherine E.) to present original paintings by crew members as part of an exclusive opening here in Montreal, on Friday and Saturday. This will be a great chance for writers to meet and exchange with some of their idols. The vernissage is on Friday, Sept. 4, from 5 to 8 p.m., followed by a party with handpicked selectahs Truspin, Maysr and Sagewondah. MOS festivities continue with massive outdoor mural paintings by over 40 writers from Montreal, Toronto, Boston, Paris and Puerto Rico (and members of TC5) on Saturday and Sunday, all day, over at Papiers MPC (1825 Cabot, Ville Émard).

Furthermore, art collective la Paria is blowing its five candles on Friday with their vernissage at CÉGÈP du Vieux-Montreal, at 6 p.m., and a party at Salon Officiel the same night with the Payz Play Supa DJs. The exhibit, ongoing till Sept. 11, will feature work by Chris and Peru Dyer, Astro, Tim Barnard and Rage 5 among about two dozen others. Last but not least, the long-awaited Babylon Expo by Turf One and Shawn Barber has officially opened at Galerie Yves Laroche (4 St-Paul E.), and will blow minds until Sept. 13.

For your eyes and feet, it’ll be Jedi Mind Tricks with Esoteric and Reef at Théâtre Telus on Sunday night.
