Damn right

CORPSES
AND QUEERS

According to the Lithuanian parliament, few things can scar a child as much as graphic violence and mutilated bodies. Among those things, however, are gambling, bad eating habits and gay people. So, under the auspices of concern for their children’s safety, the Seimas has voted to ban all those things, possibly undermining the legality of the sticks up their own asses.

A new law includes an article making illegal any material or display that might “agitate for homosexual, bisexual and polygamous relations” in any place a minor might happen upon them, including schools. According to the Seimas, exposure to homosexuality could have as much of a “detrimental effect on the development of minors” as a mangled corpse.

“Parliament has demonstrated its will to institutionalize homophobia,” said Lithuania Gay League chairman Vladimir Simonko. His sentiments are echoed by Amnesty International.

The law, which also encompasses the paranormal, cussing and laziness, was accepted by the Seimas in June but overturned by out-going President Valdus Adamkus. This week, 87 of 140 representatives voted to push it through anyway, with their majority making veto impossible.
