In more forward-thinking news, the first track from Polvo’s upcoming record is now available online. Since their apparent breakup in 1997, the math-rock stalwarts have occupied a large place in the indie rock pantheon, and so expect their reunion and new record to be followed with Dinosaur Jr.-like fervour. The album is out Sept. 8, and the track “Beggars Bowl” is at tinyurl.com/kpt5my. If you need any further proof that garage is the new emo, look to the latest group of teenagers to release a noisy, lo-fi record to Internet buzz, the Smith Westerns.
