The month of the baller

If ya’ll know anything about me, you gotta know what I love. Luscious boobies, Mexican food, pretty much everything and anything Japanese and of course, the NBA Playoffs. Something about the bouncing of basketballs, the screeching of the sneakers and the swoosh of the net makes it no surprise that hip hop was born on the court, during the very first park jams. I know that hockey rules the land here but I’m from New York, so you gotta understand.

So here’s what’s clever this weekend. Movèzebre, the eight-man local collective, is gonna shut the city down on Friday night at Club Soda with the help of K6A, Karma Atchykah, DJ 7D and DJ Manifest. Expect a strong live performance and a lot of energy in the air. Same night, we got Rhymesayers torchbearer Atmosphere coming to say what’s up and rip the mic at Théâtre Plaza, to give us a taste of his latest opus, When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold, with a helping hand from POS. We’ll also be getting a visit from West Coast shit-talker Mickey Avalon, famous for his tracks “My Dick” (“…is tall and humble/your dick got touched by your uncle”) and “Jane Fonda,” alongside his Cali compadres Cisco Adler and Shwayze, at the Telus Theatre.

Saturday, you should make a stop at Off the Hook (1021 Ste-Catherine W.) to get a taste of Omnikrom’s sophomore joint, Comme à la Television, at the listening party that they’ll be hosting at 5 p.m. It’s a nice chance to hear, before anybody else, one of this year’s most anticipated local releases.

On a sadder note, the excellent Boomboxx nights, hosted by Khiasma at Zoobizarre, are soon ending, so make sure to get your shot of international street beats this Saturday with big homie Maysr and Future Classics’ own Tashish.
