The magic number

by MORGAN STEIKER

Busy weekend ahead. Tonight, April 23, at Salon Tapis Rouge, you can catch a special performance by Holly D’sh alongside Leesa Mackey and Voyce, Kwesi Rebel, and some live visual art by Mabika Ki, at A Red Carpet Event, starting at 9 p.m. A little ways up at Club Lambi, rapper Wahlee Sparks of Negsayo gives you a taste of his swag at the release party for his solo debut Check le swag/Got Swag, a bilingual double album with hopes of setting the streets on fire. You should finish off the night at Blue Dog, where DJ New Money and Classi Assi are making their triumphant return to Grilled Cheese Thursdays after a month-long tour of Canada. That’s it for Chapter 1.

Chapter 2 starts Friday night with the one and only big homie Ghislain Poirier making a stop on his Soca Sound System tour at Foufounes Électriques for Cherry Cola’s Big City Night soirée. La Sala Rossa hosts Nomadic Massive’s fundraising event Sit to Learn, aimed at raising $3,000 to acquire benches for a high school in Haiti. They’ll be getting a helping hand from Vancouver’s Sweatshop Union, MTL’s own Narcisyst (aka Narcel X of the Mirror), NM group member Vox Bamboo, Paris transplant Foblaze and artist Jahnice. Come out and support quality music and positive work.

Chapter 3 starts with Detroit collective D12 rolling deep to les Saints on Saturday and rocking the mics with locals Velvet Trench Vibes, Too Sick Ent., Side C, Boy6lue, PXC and our usual master of ceremonies, Dshade. If you’ve been honing your skills on the mic and you’re about ready to rip some opponents, hit les 3 Minots for 11Check’s Punch Live battle competition with DJ Lazy P. The end.

NO MORE, NO LESS…
