Don’t kill Bambi[Re: “Kill Bambi,” Letters, March 26] Morgan Boenke attempts to justify hunting but succeeds only partially. Of course, hunting is a little more humane in some ways than factory farming. However, when one considers that far too much meat is already consumed in our meataholic society and that protein can easily be obtained from plant sources, the arguments in favour of hunting usually fall apart. People who eat deer are bambivores. And a person who eats deer is just not as dear. >>Manish Patwari Hold the wise man[Re: “Wise man wanted,” Letters, March 19] I’m not so well versed in feminist theory or history, but I understand that the responsibility for most of the problems Mr. Hoyer laments can reasonably be placed at the feet of men, no doubt believing themselves very wise indeed. We might do better to seek a wise woman or two to show us the way instead. >>Nathaniel Jewitt Thanks to Ed Hoyer for his panorama of every conceivable ideology and religion plaguing the world, except for the one that is bringing the world to the nuclear abyss—the extremely powerful Jewish and Christian Zionist alliance, also known as the Theo-Cons. The ultra right Likud Lobby (mistakenly called the Israeli Lobby) and the Christian Evangelical Zionists (Jerry Falwell, Stephen Harper, Jason Kenney et al) have hijacked U.S. foreign policy and will not tolerate the return of one inch of occupied Palestinian land, and consequently any peace accord, as it will delay the Messiah’s coming. This toxic ideological brew is adding fuel to the tinderbox, which is the Middle East. Unfortunately the joke is on the Zionists who, if they had read the fine print on the end-days scenario, would realize that when G-d returns, He will smite all non-believers. Translation: He will wipe Israel off the map. >>Carl Aboud Frankel vs. Saxon[Re; “Thugs to the fore,” Damn Right, March 19] It has been a few months, so it was time for Scott Saxon to emerge from the compost heap to shit on something about Israel which, along with the USA, is the only country in the world he feels worthy of this excrement. This time it is to use name-calling and innuendo to crap all over those who may serve in the upcoming government of Israel. The Prime Minister designate, Binyamin Netanyahu, is referred to as a “local spittoon.” Saxon must be apologizing for the treatment Netanyahu and many others received a few years ago at the hands of the anarchist and fascist thugs at Concordia where he was due to speak. These subsequently convicted criminals trashed both free speech and the Hall building in a superb demonstration of Hamas philosophy in action. Proposed Foreign Minister, Avigdor Lieberman, is a “racist thug.” Saxon has far more expertise in racism than I do, but whom did Lieberman beat up? The nice demonstrators at Concordia maybe? Also this “extreme right wing racist thug” is entirely in favour of an independent Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza and of forcibly removing Jewish settlers from that state. Compare that to the policy of Hamas, which wants to rid all of pre-partition Palestine from the Jewish sons of pigs and monkeys, considers it a mitzvah to kill a Jew, puts their women in harm’s way to fight these pigs and summarily executes any Arab opponents of theirs. Then, proposed Defence Minister Moshe Ya’alon is an “accused war criminal.” No big deal. All Israeli leaders are accused of being war criminals for having the chutzpah to defend their country. We are to be shocked that in killing a Hamas leader, Ya’alon’s troops might have killed 14 civilians (accidentally because the brave Hamas warriors always hide behind civilians). Do not be concerned that the Hamas attacks on Israel only target civilians. I guess we in the World War II allied countries had better be tried for war crimes. Some 30 million people were killed in that skirmish and did you know Adolf Hitler did not personally kill even one of them? Yet the allied armies, in order to send this nice man to Hell, killed hundreds of thousands of German civilians? Makes one want to barf, doesn’t it? >>Ken Frankel Call our pagerI’m looking to buy marijuana...do you sell? I’ve been looking everywhere but can’t get the right stuff. Please let me know as soon as possible. >>Momo WE WELCOME LETTERS TO THE EDITOR!
