For years, public washrooms have been seen as quite suitable for the sale of illicit drugs. It’s less brazen than a street corner, you don’t need an Internet connection like with craigslist and you don’t have to worry about pulling your pants on while a twitching mutant repeatedly knocks on your apartment door on a lazy Sunday morning. It could be, then, that a 24-year-old Everett, Washington, man had a false sense of security while setting up drug deals over the phone while in a public washroom. How could he possibly have known the washroom was itself located within the headquarters of the strictly law-abiding Everett police? Well, there is one way. “When you walk in the door, it says ‘Police’ in big, blue letters,” said Sgt. Robert Goetz. That and the fact the building has a rather high volume of people dressed as police officers, two of whom were in the washroom with the man while he made his calls. As though it might make a world of difference, the man, on probation for a robbery conviction, apparently thought he was at a probation office. He admitted to his mischief and handed over a pocketful of Oxycodone before being booked. by SCOTT SAXON |
