SETTLERS ON |
|
With most of the world’s attentions focused on getting Israel to halt its murderous rampage through Gaza, at least one group is eager to get set for their new lives dancing on the ashes of the dead. Israeli militants, dismissive of most of what God would want that doesn’t include more land for them, have vowed to re-stake their illegal claim to Gaza on the heels of the Israeli Defense Force. Since being removed in 2005 from the land they’d stolen fair and square, thousands of Israeli settlers have been longing for the day they’d be able to take it back. To many, the current assault on Gaza is the dinner gong they’ve been waiting for. “We won’t return to the settlement tomorrow morning,” said one former Gaza settler, now fighting against its current residents. “It’s a process that will ripen slowly.” Others don’t show as much patience. Last year, as Israel began starving, impoverishing and crippling Gaza’s people and infrastructure, a group uniting former Gaza settlers announced it would follow the IDF into the Strip at the first opportunity, without seeking governmental approval and with no intentions of leaving. by SCOTT SAXON |
