Electro, hip hop and house will be the soundtrack to Luxury, in the confines of one of downtown’s finest party mansions—management suggests you “dress to impress,” so as not to be outclassed by the architecture. Spread out over two floors, patrons can enjoy champagne at midnight and succulent hors d’oeuvres. On the night before New Year’s Eve, Tuesday, Dec. 30, this annual bash guarantees that you’ll be too wrecked to party on the 31st. With the purchase of $20 bracelets, thousands of party fiends will pour out of shuttle buses and into 15 clubs, where 40 DJs will spin R&B, hip hop, Top 40, dance, trance, house and ’90s classics. The debauchery begins with serious drink specials at Club 737, at 10 p.m., and note that jeans, runners, jerseys and baggy pants are not kosher.

With a concept that may or may not have been inspired by Synecdoche, New York, Final Fantasy 2009 promises a “true-to-scale New York City set housed within the legendary Orchid Nightclub,” complete with replicas of the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty. Clearly, this has to be seen to be believed, and with DJs Payce, Mahesh and Smoove*E bringing out their best hip hop and R&B, plus open bar all night, a 4,000-piece balloon drop and the Times Square countdown on 12 screens at midnight and party favours, giveaways and hors d’oeuvres to boot, it’ll be a magic NYE all around. Tickets cost $90 or $110 for VIP, with VIP packages for four–12 people (including bottles of hard liquor and champagne) ranging from $800–$2,800.

This annual all-inclusive bash has your best interests at heart, particularly if you’re a booze lover with a bad habit of losing your belongings. Not only is the bar open all night (from 9 p.m.), but the ticket price ($99, or $149 for VIP) includes tips, so patrons are encouraged to leave their wallets at home. But please pack a $20 for a taxi, folks, ’cause it’s guaranteed to go off the chain amid 1,000 of your closest, drunkest friends, dancing to hip hop, club anthems, hot Latin and old school classics on a top-of-the-line sound system, with a laser show lighting up the floor.

This year, Neon teams up with High Food to bring out the best of Montreal, with a live set by electro funk darlings Chromeo and ace DJs Jordan Dare and the Nu Ravers on the Block crew. But that’s not all, as French digital-new wave duo Kap Bambino will make their live local debut, DJ Tommie Sunshine returns to his second home (after Brooklyn) and multimedia installations will create “a series of virtual interactive environments” for party people to lose themselves in. The W invites partygoers to wile away the final hours of 2008 by dining on gourmet cuisine at their Ristorante Otto, plunging into the elegance of the Plateau Lounge and submitting to the surreal charms of Wunderbar. They promise an atmosphere of “lavish excess” across the three spaces, with live performers, DJs, a light show, a midnight toast, door prizes and a host of surprises, including “small theatrical illusions,” to keep you on your toes.
