Though, in Canada, getting caught by police while smoking a joint, say, in the alley next to a Bishop street pub during the office Christmas party wouldn’t necessarily get in the way of your returning to the party to keep drinking until some cock from the sales department closes the tab, Muncie, Indiana, is not Canada, and sparking up a joint in front of the Law is a serious offence. Even if the officer did just say okay to your question about whether he minds if you smoke. Chances are pretty good the officer assumed you meant a cigarette. But Honesty Knight didn’t mean a cigarette at all. Sitting in the passenger seat of a friend’s car when that friend was pulled over for a minor traffic violation, Honesty didn’t think she was hurting the situation much by asking if she could smoke. Indiana State Trooper Eric Perkins clearly didn’t think Honesty’s lighting up would hurt, either, because he told her it was no problem. Until she did and he quickly recognized the smell as being of a non-tobacco nature. Drug charges are pending to complement Honesty’s prior convictions for forgery, theft, escape and receiving stolen property. by SCOTT SAXON |
