What is hip?: The Tragically Unhip is a blog—staffed by a motley crew of Montreal- and New York-based unhipsters—that claims to have “three fingers on the pulse of uncoolness,” which in itself is a pretty ironic and clever-clever hipster thing to say. But don’t let that dissuade you, because this female-centric blog gets into the nitty gritty on issues like typeface selection, celebrity-baby names and fruit-and-graffiti appreciation with a perspective that will appeal to all you crunchy media-types out there at thetragicallyunhip.com.

Bad advice: Scott Meyer’s Basic Instructions may give bad advice, but at least it’s funny and free. Each four-panel cartoon, updated a few times a week, offers an unusable solution to life’s little problems, like consoling a friend whose cat recently died, solving global warming, choosing a gift for someone you don’t know well or how to suppress the urge to kill the terrible, annoying people you have to deal with on the quotidian. Think for yourself at basicinstructions.net.
