Brazil-bound

by SCOTT C

If you’re familiar with Nomadic Massive and their mandate to fulfill the role of ambassadors of the global hip hop movement, then you already know that the Montreal hip hop group has travelled to Cuba not once but twice in the name of cultural, social and musical exchange. This coming November, the crew plans to take their show down to Brazil, and in preparation for that important trip, they’re trying to raise some money to make the journey that much easier. Two shows at les Bobards are planned, with the first on Saturday, Oct. 11, and the second on Nov. 8. Both shows will start at 10 p.m., with the option of a $5 entry or $10 with a CD.

Godfather D has bum-rushed the spot at Qlimax (50 Prince-Arthur) and has quickly resurrected his much loved Chillincypherizm nights on the Main. Undergound hip hop and R&B are the order of the day, and you know the God-D will hold it down all night long. Five dollars gets you into this new (old) night, starting this Friday at 10 p.m. That same night at Coda, you can catch hip hop legend Stretch Armstrong when he drops in on the Fix. He’ll be playing alongside NCV and Duvall, and right now, I don’t know how much it will cost you to roll through the door. It starts at 10:30 p.m., though.

FANTASTIC ELASTIC: Stretch Armstrong

This week, I can’t forget DJ Waahli and DJ Kyou, who’ve been holding down Friday nights at Korova since the dawn of man with their What’s Cookin’ weekly. Imagine, each and every week, they’re playing funk, soul, rare grooves and hip hop classics for the people. Do yourself a favour and check it out. Lastly, Papa Groove puts in some work over at Divan Orange this week, with a show set for Saturday at 8 p.m.

As it stands right now, I don’t have a clue what in the hell I’m supposed to wear for Halloween, so you can stop asking. If you have any bright ideas though, please let me know. This is the first year in a while we’ve had the ol’ Halloween weekend, so make sure you get your disguise sorted out.

Seven reasons simplicity can be quite difficult:
1. Rinse the Algorithm Locutions (independent)
2. Arch_typ “3333” (PTR)
3. Stacy Epps The Awakening (JapaNubia)
4. Opolopo feat. Amalia “All Systems Down” (Deeper Soul)
5. Om’mas Keith “Bassa SexPlex” (Reebok)
6. Herbie Hancock “Watermelon Man” (Kenny Dope Club Mix)
(Verve)
7. Tracy Webber “One Step at a Time” (RFC)
