Just bought a moped

by SCOTT C

Last night, I had the most harrowing dream.
I dreamt that some crazy mad scientist developed a machine that could propel us months into the future, making it seem like annual high points like summer hadn’t even happened. Imagine—one minute it’s April, and then the next minute it’s September. What a nightmare. Anyway, tonight, Thursday, Sept. 25, Toronto band LAL dips into town for a show at le Social. They’ll be taking part in Beats Against Borders, a QPIRG/Concordia Orientation wrap-up benefit night starting at 9 p.m. If you still haven’t seen LAL’s lead singer Rosina Kazi channelling spirits live on stage, make a point of checking her out tonight.

Young bucks are running tings this Friday when MCs Kid Cudi and Hollywood Holt make a stop in Montreal. If you’re down for the early-bird business, check out Upperground to the Moon, the official Kid Cudi and Hollywood Holt pre-party at the Off the Hook Gallery, from 8–11 p.m. There you’ll catch a few choice cuts from the boys as well as DJ sets from Arcade and Million$Mano. It’s all free, but when the party really starts over at Coda as of 11 p.m., it’ll cost you $10 before midnight to get into what will clearly be a rammed event.

WHAT UP, DOCS:
Redman and Method Man

You may remember Kid Cudi from Kid Sister and A-Trak’s North American tour, on which he tagged along and was eventually signed to Fool’s Gold as a result. Moped enthusiast Hollywood Holt is best known for the song “Throw a Kit,” where he raps up and down about his moped crew Murder Club and all the gear he’s topped up his bike with. Remember, “If your headlight’s goin’ out, just jiggle the cord...”

Jahnice+ plays the All Together Multicultural Festival this Saturday at Square Cabot (corner Atwater and Ste-Catherine), and if you get down there for 6:45 p.m. sharp, you’ll catch his performance for free.

So, this is your last chance to get on board for Redman and Method Man, who’ll be lighting up Metropolis this Sunday, and just to see if you’re actually with me, I’ve got a pair of tix to give away for the big show. The first person to e-mail me with the name of the eighth song on Redman’s Muddy Waters LP will being going to the show. Don’t sleep!

Happy belated birthdays to Professore and Miss B, and early wishes to Donklis, you old bastard!

Seven reasons time keeps on slippin’:
1. 2000Black “Move Over” (2000Black)
2. Karriem Riggins “Rhodes Ahead” (Fusicology)
3. Redman “Tonight’s Da Night” (Def Jam)
4. Raphael Saadiq The Way I See It (Sony)
5. Made in Japan “Babyspace” Georgia Anne Muldrow Remix
(Citywurl)
6. Samon Kawamura Unfold (Nesola)
7. Koushik “Be With” (Stones Throw)
