Since selling out her 70-date concert tour last year, she’s been just about everywhere and not even the ubiquitous Vanity Fair photo could put a damper on her reign. It’s no surprise then that the concert was recorded and repackaged into a 3D movie, for anyone who missed the tour, but if you missed the movie... well, now you can bring it home. Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds 3D Concert Tour, just released on DVD, is double-disc set that offers both 2D and 3D versions—not to worry, 3D glasses are included. The movie is here in its entirety, which is to say, this isn’t a straight-up concert flick. The film cuts between on stage and off, interspersing Cyrus’s wardrobe changes with a set by skinny-jeaned heartthrobs the Jonas Brothers. For a Disney production, however, this one is lacking in special features, with Also out on DVD is Gypsy Caravan, a documentary by Jasmine Dellal that follows five Roma (Gypsy) groups as they embark on a joint tour across North America. Though most of the movie follows their time here, the most interesting and vivid part of the doc takes place when they follow the artists back to their respective homes in Romania, India, Spain and Macedonia. Of the five groups featured, Romanian troupe Taraf de Haïdouks and Macedonian singer Esma Redzepova are likely the two most internationally well-known. Whether you’re an old fan or new to these sounds, the film is a great introduction to Roma music and culture. -SACHA JACKSON |
