Karizmatic revolution

by SCOTT C

Who knows what forces aligned for Redman and Method Man to reunite and run the Still High Tour all over creation, but I think many of you are smiling because they did. Perhaps it has something to do with Red’s relative absence from the 2000s as far as album output goes, or maybe Meth’s recent run of television and movie appearances came into play, but the fact remains, they’re coming to Montreal on Sept. 28 to perform at Metropolis. They’ll be joined by local force to be reckoned with, Magnum 357, for this $45 ticket, so get yours now. Is there anybody else out there who was cringing every time Method Man spoke in that awful Jamaican accent in the recently released movie, The Wackness? Damn right he should get back to rapping!
IN-HOUSE AND OUT OF THE HOUSE:
DJ Karizma

Got a note from Sunny D last weekend announcing that Baltimore deep-house killer and all-around super producer Karizma is coming to Montreal on Friday, Aug. 29 for a show at Time Supper Club. Considered by many (including myself) to be one of best working DJs/producers in soulful house music right now, Karizma is also a confessed hip hop head and is not only known to venture into that territory while holding down the booth, but also on record. Do yourself a favour and check out this nu-school innovator. Tix are $15 in advance and $20 at the door, or e-mail datchka@gmail to find out more.

Big Ghislain Poirier and the Payz Play squad take over Diable Vert tonight, Thursday, Aug. 14 for some big beats and most likely some rhymes to boot. Diable Vert celebrates 10 years with this $15 party, so check out les boys for a well-rounded night.

Look for a night of local and visiting hip hop, reggae and soul this Friday at la Sala Rossa when Street Vibes celebrates their five-year anniversary with a night of performance called The Uprising. Along with Toronto’s Rochester, aka Juice, and DFS recording artist Promise, you’ll enjoy appearances from Earthquake Soundcrew, Ziploks, Lil Royalty, Alter Reign, Lil Sane, Bricc, Clare Michelle, Ecstasy, Ace of the Block, WDH featuring Manchilde, Free Benny Means with Rashad Specter, Queen & Master Zibz, Jonathan Emile and even more. Be a part of raising some money for Head & Hands and Jeunesse 2000 by attending this jam-packed event.

Seven reasons every rose has its thorn:
1. Elzhi The Preface (Fatbeats)
2. 2000Black “Don’t Make Me Hurt You” (Third Ear)
