Bang the head that

Barn Burner take back the night

TAINTS CHAFED BY SASSY DANCERS: Barn Burner

By JOHNSON CUMMINS

Vancouver transplants Barn Burner are all about the riffs, and stick close to the tried and true tradition of AC/DC and Motörhead by keeping it dumber than a bag of hammers. The Mirror had an e-mail exchange with Barn Burner’s guitarist/singer Kevin Keegan as they were putting the finishing touches on their debut record, slotted for release on local label Storyboard in early spring.

Mirror: Kim Mitchell would describe you guys as a wild party. Been to any major ragers lately?

Kevin Keegan: Well, we do pride ourselves in providing the proper ambience for a ball-swingin’ good time. We all attended a party recently in which someone tried to grill some dirty panties on a George Foreman grill, and then proceeded to pee in the washing machine.

M: You guys are all happy campers but also know how to tell it like it is. What’s chafing your taint these days?

KK: Oh man, my choad is a-burnin’ all right! The fucker who stole my guitar from Club Lambi has got me pretty fired up. What a peckerwood.

M: What do you think is the worst trend in music right now, and why must it be stopped?

KK: The sassy dance-y shit that still seems to plague our ears at every turn has run its course, that’s for sure. The Grade 9 theatre class bands are bumming me out a touch as well. It’s not that they should be stopped, it’s just that people should loosen up, throw on some AC/DC and break a bottle over their head, and they’ll be alright.

M: Does Montreal know how to rock or should it take some lessons from places like Burnaby, B.C.?

KK: I thought Montreal knew how to rock when I initially moved out here, but allI found is a small minority of bangers who enjoy the guiles of rock and metal. This force is small, but the power it wields is fierce and widespread. I think every cityis swept up in the pop trends and whatnot, but for every sass-master pop-pecker, there’s a banger hiding in the shadows ready to pounce and take back the night!
