De-debunking conspiracy

9/11 truther defies the attacks’ official
version and its backers by pressing for an
independent Canadian investigation

by CHRIS BARRY

Name: Robert Lewis

Age: 39

Occupation: Writer, filmmaker, 9/11 truth activist

Bio: Interestingly enough, this Little Burgundy hunk doesn’t appear paranoid in the slightest. Rather, he comes off as informed and erudite, able to speak intelligently at length on the “true” story behind the events of 9/11—you know, the version claiming George W and his country club buddies were the most likely culprits behind the tragedy. Always politically engaged but never quite an activist, Robert only committed himself to the cause in 2007 after travelling to Ground Zero to interview “truth activists” for a short documentary film he was making and being overwhelmed by all the evidence suggesting a cover-up. He’s now working with several 9/11 truth chapters, including Montreal 9/11 Truth (mtl911truth.org), who are currently organizing a march on Ottawa (marchonottawa2008.org) in support of an independent Canadian 9/11 investigation.

Didn’t Popular Mechanics present a detailed analysis of the claims made by the 9/11 Truth movement in March 2005 that clearly knocked their arguments on their ass, most notably that the towers were brought down by demolition explosives? “Dr. David Ray Griffin soundly rebutted the Popular Mechanics article in his book Debunking 9/11 Debunking. Even the National Institute for Science and Technology (NIST), which reported to the 9/11 Commission, admitted in 2007 that, ‘We are unable to provide a full explanation of the total collapse’ of the towers. So unless Popular Mechanics knows something that NIST doesn’t know, we’re back to demolition explosives as the most probable explanation.”

Does he also ascribe to theories claiming space monsters were dissected at Roswell and a maniacal Ronald Reagan and Boxcar Willie once got it on with children as part of a nefarious mind control program conducted by the CIA in the 1960s? Not especially. “Although the CIA’s experiments with mind control are well-known and I agree Ronald Reagan was in many important ways a maniac, I know little about Boxcar Willie and even less about Roswell. As for whether much of what goes on in the world is planned in secret by powerful elites, it would be unwise not to take the Rockefellers and others at their word. They’ve admitted to working mostly secretly over the past century to engineer a ‘new world order,’ and 9/11 was part of that plan. The evidence strongly suggests elements within the Bush regime were the conspirators behind 9/11, but the ultimate conspirators are the Rockefellers, members of the Bilderberg Group, and so on. They orchestrated 9/11 to launch a ‘war on terror’ that can’t be won and will fund the military industrial complex for years to come.”

Will the world ever know “the truth” about 9/11? “Yes. The Internet will make the difference. I mean, we’re talking about architects, engineers, ex-CIA, ex-military, all these people have come forward on the Internet. There’re all kinds of Web sites where people from all sorts of disciplines have added their expertise to the puzzle. We’ve never seen anything like this before. It was almost 30 years before all the evidence respecting the JFK assassination was coalesced and presented in the public domain.”

Last books read: Awakening, by Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan.

Musical preferences: Leonard Cohen, Dylan, Lou Reed.

Words of wisdom: “The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.”
