Okay, so by now we already know that it’s hard to pull off a full-on Wu-Tang show without a hitch, but tonight, Thursday, July 3, at Metropolis should prove to be a memorable show, with two of the Wu’s more accountable members sharing the stage. The RZA is back as Bobby Digital, an alias that I have to admit I didn’t think would make it this far, but thanks to the strange appeal of his latest, Digi Snacks, a whole heap of you will enjoy the spectacle of the Wu-Tang’s eccentric leader. In an amazing twist of fate, somebody came up with the great idea for GZA to do a Liquid Swords tour, finally giving true Wu fans what they’ve been waiting for since 1995. He joins the RZA for this very special Jazz fest show. Tix are $42.50 at the door.

RIP: François Dumouchel, aka DJ Euterke

Fans of U.K. soul boy Nate James can check out the Lakenheath native when he takes the General Motors stage for a free show at Jazz fest, at 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Friday, July 4. Word on the street is that he’ll be backed by some notable locals, making him feel right at home. Also on Friday night, you can enjoy the sultry vocals of young Zaki Ibrahim when she performs on the Bell stage at 10 p.m. The Toronto singer dropped her new album, Eclectica (Episodes in Purple), back in May. New York’s premier live house trio, Tortured Soul, return to Montreal for a Jazz fest show at Club Soda, also happening on Friday. These guys killed it last August when they played Cabaret, so I strongly suggest you make some time for this show, most definitely one of a kind. Tix are $22.50 and the show starts at midnight.

I was startled by a most horrific crash on Saturday night around 1:40 a.m., and went outside to see all kinds of people surrounding a man who had just been the victim of a hit and run. DJ Euterke, aka François Dumouchel, was killed when he was thrown from his scooter after being hit by an SUV, with the driver dragging mangled pieces of the scooter for over a kilometre. Police later apprehended the driver and SUV in Old Montreal. Residents and witnesses of the accident have been leaving flowers on the corner since the weekend.

Seven reasons they should have been booked at Jazz fest
this year:

1. Soil & “Pimp” Sessions Pimpoint (Brownswood)
2. Jose James The Dreamer (Brownswood)
3. Quasimode Oneself Likeness (Freestyle)
4. Janelle Monae The Audition (independent)
5. Portishead Third (Universal)
6. Hocus Pocus Place 54 (Motown)
7. Elmore Judd Insect Funk (Honest Jon’s)
