The fake news: No news is good news, right? Well, what if the headlines announced that China apologizes and withdraws from Tibet, the U.S. adopts socialized healthcare, spam is eliminated, gasoline-powered cars are obsolete, wages rise and Barry Bonds reveals the real secret to his success: yoga. No, it’s not the news under President Obama, it’s a fake Google News page with stories from an alternate universe where you don’t live in cringing terror. Pull an existential prank on your friends at www.fugue.com/pics/goodnews.html. Old, old, old school: Unless you’re an avid student of prehistory, it may surprise you how long ago it was that humans developed inventions still used today. In 7,000 B.C. (the Flinstonian period), we had weighted looms. In 5,000 B.C. we had kilns for pottery, and in 4,000 B.C. we had eyeliner. And in 2,000 B.C. we got brain surgery, although in all fairness it was not that effective. See how very little is actually new at www.smith.edu/hsc/museum/ancient_inventions/.
