Vox popular

by SCOTT C

After a long and gruelling period of writing, rehearsal and recording, mad sax-man Erik Hove’s band Soundclash is set to play Dieze Onze this Friday night as part of the l’Off Jazz festival. The chaos-inspired quartet consists of Fraser Hollins on bass, Martin Auguste on drums, Paolo “P-Love” Kapunan on the amazing two-octave turntable and Hove on alto sax. This isn’t quite the launch of their upcoming LP on Effendi Records, but you’re gonna get an earful for $8 just the same. Show starts at 10 p.m.

Marseille’s Sultan of Rap, Freeman, is coming to Quebec for a little mini-tour to support his new LP, L’espoir d’un (c)rêve. He’s in Montreal this Sunday, June 12, for a show at Foufounes, if you want to check a seasoned MC on the mic.

GOING PUBLIC: Vox Sambou

Montreal hip hop outfit Hustle Hard Fam plans to go big this Friday when they throw a launch party for their new single, “Got That,” off of their upcoming fall full-length. You can check out a taste of that record, plus stand-up comic and host for the night, Rodney Ramsey, when they take the stage at O Patro Vys. If you’re curious about the music, check www.myspace.com/

hustlehardstudios for the whole story. Also on Friday, June 13, DJ B’ugo celebrates his birthday with a nice jam over at Tapis Rouge (1252 Bleury). The Friday Night House Party and Nova present Sexy Chocolat, a clear ode to B’ugo featuring Uzi, Kamaka, Minimalman and of course B’ugo. Be prepared for some fine music, lots of whiskey and enough chocolate to do the job. Doors are at 10 p.m., $7 gets you in.

Haitian MC Vox Sambou brings his latest project to the people when he performs with Nomadic Massive on June 21 at the MAI. This live show will feature songs from his new LP on Public Transit Recordings, Lakay, and feature the combined efforts of over 15 vocalists, musicians and visual artists. Vox’s story is captivating, whether you watch it unfold in person or pick up the CD.
