Huck hearts egg people

The likelihood of his presidency might drift further out of reach every time he speaks, but that doesn’t mean Mike Huckabee can’t help stir things up for the next guy. And in this season of pre-election posturing, by God, no self-respecting Republican goes without hitching his or her name to an over-the-top run at outlawing abortion. For Huckabee, that bit of politicking comes by way of a Colorado ballot initiative that, if passed, would amend the constitution to state that human life begins the moment Mister Sperm bumps into Miss Ova. Sponsored by the anti-choice Colorado for Equal Rights, the Colorado Human Life Amendment seeks to define “personhood” as beginning the moment an egg is fertilized. The initiative, if accepted, would extend constitutional protections to unborn children, effectively laying the groundwork toward making abortion illegal. “Passing this amendment will mean the people of Colorado will protect the sanctity of life from conception until natural death occurs,” said Huckabee. The initiative, which is being strongly opposed by Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado, still requires the signatures of 76,000 registered Colorado voters to make the ballot. by SCOTT SAXON |
