What we do here

by SCOTT C

If dirty, danceable, bass-heavy laser-rap is definitely your thing, and you still haven’t caught up with Thunderheist, then you need to recalibrate your jukebox, dude. With yet another live show set to jump off at Petit Campus on Saturday, March 1, they share the stage with Hovatron, Outaragatron, les Miatches, La Grange plus MC Funky Falz for this dip to Montreal. Naturally, mayhem will ensue and y’all will be left to pick up the pieces until the next time they come to town. Tix are $10.

If any of you out there have been getting the Fusicology.com mailouts telling you exactly what fantastic parties and shows you’ll be missing in cities like Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philly, Chicago, and yes, even Toronto, you’ll be happy to know that Fusicology has now extended its weekly list of happenings to include a Montreal page, complete with all the funk, soul, jazz, hip hop and house business that you need to know about each and every week. Check out the site to see exactly where they’re coming from at www.fusicology.com.

This Saturday, Jojo Flores, along with Misayo and Jabig, pull out all the stops and roll out the good stuff for their regular Therapy Classics edition at Cherry in Old Montreal. With Simon B holding down the backroom, these nights are very popular with the diehard heads, who will no doubt be out in force. Ten dollars gets you in, or $7 if you know somebody. E-mail bicflores@gmail.com for info and booth reservations. Get there early so there’s no grumbling in the cold, and don’t forget to wish Amit a happy birthday.

Now, if you happened to get shut out of Café de Lima last week, you might want to give them another go this Friday night when they present another journey into deep house called Solid Ground. DJs Don Barbarino (aka Godfather D), Jawn Deep and Miss Molly take the wheels for this special edition of One Spirit Underground. Tix are $5 before 12:30 a.m., and you can e-mail onespiritundergroundmusic@gmail.com for more guest-list info.

On Friday, Feb. 22, Nomadic Massive unveil their brand new video for “Sad but True” at Club Lambi with an all-out performance and party afterwards. You may have been one of the extras in this clip, so make sure you’re at the debut.

Lastly, don’t forget the Goods Homegrown Edition on Saturday, Feb. 23 at la Sala Rossa. Along with myself and big Andy Williams on the cut, you can expect a slew of the hottest tunes ever dropped at the Goods. You know how we do. Eight bucks gets you in.

Seven reasons organized talks yield results:
1. Carlos Nino/Miguel Atwood-Ferguson “Find a Way” (Dilla Classics)
2. Marcia Maria “Amigo Branco” (RCA)
3. Hipnotic “Are You Lonely” (Street Level)
4. Ike Turner “Getting Nasty” (Funky Delicacies)
5. Cutty Lark “Get Caught” (Do Right)
6. KenLo “Noir” (CDR)
7. The Streets “Stay Positive” (Warner)
