For your eyes only

Quadrangle: Photos used to be more, well, permanent. When you committed something to film, it stayed there until torn up. Photos couldn’t be destroyed or duplicated with the touch of a keyboard. And if you left a photograph lying around, someone was bound to find it. That’s the point of Square America, a collection of snapshots of 20th century American life via found photography. There’s ’50s fishermen with lines of fresh-water bounty, ’60s she-hunters with beehive hairdos and ’70s biracial, bisexual orgy-goers. It’s authentic but NSFW at www.squareamerica.com.

Beast from the East: Ping Magazine is a daily dose of the best design and graphic art from a Japanese perspective. But it’s not just Nissan concept cars and Tokyo street scenes—recent report topics include Brazilian illustration, Iranian Farsi typography and graffiti, and Australian Scott Campbell’s deconstructed transformers. And if you like Japanese product design (not available at a store near you), look no further than www.pingmag.jp.
