Don’t miss the vernissage for local king Sake and New York writer Antonio Kel as they team up for a show called Brooklyn, QC at the Artothèque gallery at 5720 St-André (Rosemont metro) on Friday, Nov. 30 at 5 p.m. This exhibition of installations sheds some light on the graffiti genius that Sake has maintained forever, and his link to Kel and the famed, New York-based 5mh crew that he founded. The exhibit will be up for two weeks after the vernissage if you can’t make it out. So here’s the skinny on Guru and the Jazzmatazz line-up for the show happening at Saints Showbar on Thursday, Dec. 6. Nomadic Massive is set to steal the show when they open things up, because if you’ve been paying attention, they really don’t skimp on their live game, people. Guru will be joined by Solar and the 7 Grand Players, not to be confused with MC Solaar, who he collaborated with on the original Jazzmatazz project. Solar is a New York-based producer and the main driving force behind the sound of 7 Grand Records, the label that he and Guru run. Also on the bill is Toronto rapper Shad, who is getting a lot of attention right now in the T-Dot. Check it out. Now if this is the same Promise who did an online mixtape presented by Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Music a while back, a link with Duck Down could bring something rugged to his airtight flow, but who knows. Lastly, check out 7D’s Jungle Jam at Lola Lounge tonight, Thursday, Nov. 22, when I stop by to mash up the place with my good buddy. He’s there every Thursday night, with special guests rolling through on the regular. Seven reasons why I’m cooking something delicious: Sometimes you don’t even have to try... |
