Speaking of Public Transit Recordings, look for a new compilation from local DJ, jazzman and man about town Andy Williams on PTR called Variations in Time: A Jazz Perspective, available Nov. 30 from www.ptrmusic.com. The first 12-inch single from the comp is a tune called “Monk Swing,” featuring local heads Karma & Lotus, up front and personal. The 12-inch also features Eval Manigat’s Thelonious ode, “Raw Monk,” and dub poet Clifton Joseph’s nod to the master, “A Chant for Monk.” The single is available now from the PTR site. Look for big Ghislain Poirier downtown tonight, Thursday, Nov. 15, as he joins DJs Hensforth and Rilly Guilty at le Social for Tuff Loves. The party starts at 10 p.m., with a $10 cover, and Ghislain hits the decks at 12:30 a.m. Hensforth, Guilty and DJ Slice have been holding down le Social every Thursday since September with a weekly mix of hip hop, rock, electro and rarities from around the world. The Original Slackers of Comedy have banded together to bring you what is sure to be a night of hilarity and drunken foolishness tonight at the DB Clarke Theatre (1455 de Maisonneuve W., in the basement of Concordia’s Hall Building). Local comics Rodney Ramsey, Christophe Davidson, Andrew Searles, Kwasi Thomas, Deanne Smith, Dan Bingham, Massimo and Nick Brazzo pull out all the stops to relieve some stress while giving you your money’s worth, and when that doesn’t work, you can always rush the stage. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Call (514) 294-2729 for advance tickets. Man, if you’re one of the few who still haven’t seen the astonishing video that Montreal filmmaker Benjamin Steiger Levine made for SoCalled’s “You Are Not Alone,” make a bee-line for YouTube right now and see some no-frills, hi-tech ingenuity at its best. Brings a whole new dimension to an already great song, like it should. Big Montreal condolences go out to Kanye West, who lost his 58-year-old mother, Dr. Donda West, when she died after complications from surgery at Centinela Freeman Regional Medical Centre in California this past weekend. I can’t imagine how that guy feels right now, so peace goes out. Seven reasons you could go any minute: The words just weren’t coming out... fathead@videotron.ca |
