As of last Friday, cbcradio3.com, our public broadcaster’s online effort, brings you a live broadcast with a live host—just, uh, like a regular radio station. From 9 a.m.–6 p.m. every weekday, you can now listen to Tariq Hussain, Craig Norris, Grant Lawrence, Lisa Christiansen and Lauren Burrows (in that order). Buck 65 is scheduled to host once in a while, and other guests are planned—my vote’s for Sloan’s Chris Murphy, who proved himself quite the funny man with Jian Ghomeshi last summer on his regular Sounds Like Canada appearances. There will also be new weekly Sessions podcasts, featuring live recordings from the station’s Vancouver studio. The idea of all this is to make more accessible the “largest database of independent Canadian music in the world,” so pay a visit, and see your tax dollars at work.

Tonight, locals We Are Wolves are playing with Pas Chic Chic at le National. We Are Wolves push all the right buttons (so to speak), creating highly danceable songs in both French and English, and I can’t resist reprinting this description from Pitchfork: “Times New Viking buzzsaw ebullience meets Rapture-like dancefloor sloganeering, with the occasional slow jam.” The title track from their new album, Total Magique, is available at tinyurl.com/39k6tr. Pas Chic Chic, meanwhile, contains members of both godspeed you! black emperor and Fly Pan Am, and they write songs that are faster than you’d think, based on that pedigree.
