Lots to do this St-Jean Baptiste weekend, when everybody will be in a good mood and ready to party their asses off, starting with the Lovers & Friends night over at Academy on Friday, June 22. They’ll welcome the world-famous DJ Ayres for yet another dose of NYC’s favourite party, the Rub, and he’ll play alongside local heroes Maysr and DJ Huggs. Do you believe the hype? Well, I suggest you check out the genuine article yourself when Flipmode/Aftermath artist Papoose makes his way to Montreal on Friday, June 22, for a show at Club Soda. It’s been a long time since the buzz on one MC has been so deafening, with Papoose signing a $1.5-million record deal based on mixtape madness and skills alone. So you be the judge. He’ll be joined by Addictiv, Imposs, Magnum 357, Craze, Velvet Trench Vibes and a few other special guests that night. Speaking of Magnum 357, this rugged Montreal MC headlines his own gig on Friday, June 29, when the Revolver Show hits Boodha Bar. Magnum has been on his own mixtape grind for some time now and more Montreal heads should know he doesn’t play. Check him out with Bad News Brown, i.Blast, Vokab, DJ Redd Dredd and guests, and know now that the first 100 people in the door walk away with a free mixtape. Tix are $8. Oh, and no hoodies, no hats!

Back to St-Jean weekend business, with Double Agents putting their two cents in with a party called Shake! on Sunday, June 24, at Main Hall. This is apparently a pyjama-jammy-jam, complete with ladies in negligées, and no Speedos allowed. Sounds like fun, but what kind of party would it be if the music wasn’t being provided by Miss Molly and B’ugo? Tix are $6 before midnight, and $8 after, and the doors open at 10 p.m.
