For those who discovered David Lynch’s prime-time soap, Twin Peaks (1989–90), when season one was released on DVD back in ’02, chances are you’ve worn out the edge of your seat over its multiple cliffhangers. Well, it’s time to give yourself a present because season two is finally here. (The bad news is that the series’ pilot is still M.I.A.) This six-disc set features over an hour’s worth of interviews with some of the show’s directors, aside from Lynch, and cast members including Kyle MacLachlan and Sherilyn Fenn. But the main attraction is the show, 22 pristinely transferred episodes, wherein Laura Palmer’s murder is solved and the Northwestern town continues to be tormented by strange forces, both supernatural and flesh-and-blood. The latter arrives in the form of ex-FBI agent Windom Earle, an excellent evil-genius role for Canada’s Kenneth Welsh; David Duchovny (as a transvestite) and Heather Graham appear as well.

A couple of the other storylines are mediocre, one is completely negligible, but this set is well worth its reasonable price for the key episodes that Lynch directed, including possibly the most perverse series finale in TV history. And as part of Cinéma du Parc’s Lynch retrospective, which runs until May 17, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me is playing on May 8, 13 and 16—if you’ve yet to see season two, be warned that the film has a major spoiler.
