I’m just sayin’...

by SCOTT C
Creeping up once again is good ol’ Friday the 13th, and I’m the first to admit that even though I check the odd episode of Dr. Who here and there, it should be your regular, good ol’ Friday. If it was Friday the 20th of April, however, a serious combination of events could put you right in the middle of Global Warning at Boodah Bar. For $10, you’re gonna see dudes like Preach Ankobia, Lou Piensa, Ceasrock, Rashad Specter, Johnny Hostile and Foblaze mash up the mic.

DJ Sinister’s soulful house nights, One Spirit, over at Salon Daomé are in for a special journey on Saturday, April 21, when they invite DJs Josh and Kwab in for a little Underground Revival NYC. You know they’ll be diggin’ into the crates, trying their best possible to make sure you’re sweating when you leave the dancefloor, and that sounds like my kind of party. Big-ups to Godfather D and Sherifa for holding it down as well.

Also over at Daomé on Wednesday, April 25, you can now make room for a live improv and open-mic night once a month. They’re opening things up for any prospective spoken word artists, MCs, vocalists, DJs, musicians and even visual artists to come down and show their skills. If you’re interested in participating, just e-mail blackstarliner@hotmail.com for more information.

Le Kopshop continues its run of fine events with a show on April 20 featuring J Sands of Lone Catalysts alongside Montreal heavies D-Shade and Memo. Not bad for $8.

Got an e-mail from Diarmuid Ewing, the owner of a juice bar called Citron Vert at 209 Mont-Royal. Apparently, he’s interested in selling mixtapes from Montreal DJs to the mountain traffic every week. Not a bad idea if you haven’t been selling CDs out of your trunk or anything like that, and the bonus is that he’ll sell them for you with no commission. All he asks for is a play copy for himself, to play in his business. What more could you want out of a juice bar? Fresh juice, smoothies and DJ Pootnz’s new double-CD mega-mix.

If you haven’t already worked your Nas ticket angle, now would be a good time to lock them down for the April 16 show at Metropolis. I’m just sayin’...

Just to make a correction to something that I wrote a couple weeks back, Good Life, the people behind the Wefunk t-shirt designs, can be found at www.glife.ca.

Seven reasons Narce and Nas are a good combo:
  1. Basement Soul Strings of Life Mix (CDR)
  2. Brassmunk Fewturistic (54th)
  3. Specifics “Don’t Get It Twist” (CDR)
  4. Ben Westbeech Welcome to the Best Years of Your Life (Brownswood)
  5. Tom Trago “MTHRFCKR” (Kindred Spirits)
  6. Evidence The Weatherman (ABB)
  7. Arch_Typ “Harlem Hustle” (Raw Fusion)
