Abortion ban take two

In South Dakota’s ongoing attempt to
tame the wild frontiers of the human uterus, 25 state legislators have
introduced a second attempt at passing their oncedefeated abortion ban
with some amendments that are so far being met with the same hostility
that hindered the first bill. The decision on last year’s bill, which
banned all abortions except in cases where pregnancy put a woman’s life
at risk, was forced onto last November’s ballot. Voters rejected it 56
to 44 per cent. Now the anti-abortion lawmakers have found room in
their hearts to exclude from their ban females who’ve been impregnated
through acts of incest or other instances of rape. Of course, even
these exceptions would be conditional. In the case of rape, the crime
would have to have been reported within 50 days of its occurrence. A
foetus spawned of incest would have to undergo DNA testing. >> Scott Saxon |
