Something for everyone

Smashing! Just when you thought American youth culture couldn’t get any more vulgar, stupid, violent or frivolous, here comes Smash Some Stuff, where a group of camcorder-toting white kids, who claim to drink Listerine for fun, destroy currently-retailed electronics, such as XBOX 360s, PSPs and the iPod Nano, in-and-around a well-appointed suburban McMansion. Expect an MTV2 show and direct-to-DVD motion picture to come of this, while wrapping yourself in the maple leaf. They also somehow acquire and use guns and explosives at www.smashsomestuff.com.

Wordless: Just like Newton’s third law, the stupidity on the Web is counterbalanced by the brilliant and beautiful. And that aptly describes local boy Matt Forsythe’s gorgeous and otherworldly Web comic Ojingogo, which is a pantomime with inscrutable dialogue, moonscapes, space creatures, mummies and whales. It’s a little bit Calvin and Hobbes, a little bit H.R. Giger and a lot good at www.ojingogo.com.
