Roaming

Hop a train: George Slay the Duck Throttler, The Fishin’ Physician, Juicepockets Thomas Moone, Canadian Football Pete, Randal Mouth-Harp—these are some of the 700 hobo names made up by well-regarded expert John Hodgman, star of stage, screen, literature and wireless radio, expressing forlorn nostalgia for those bygone days of riding the rails and stealing hot pies from farmhouse windowsills. For over an hour, Hodgman reads out all 700 names, with live guitar accompaniment, live, in one take at www.areasofmyexpertise.com/hoboes.html.

Picture pages: Local photog Christopher DeWolf has relaunched his terrific URBANPHOTO as a collaborative blog where photographers show off urban spaces all over the world. Pigeon-feeding in Venetian palazzi, ice-cream eating in Mile-End and alley-cat avoiding in Macau are some of what you’ll see through an urban lens, with diverse contributors from places as far-flung as Shanghai, San Francisco, Sweden, Edmonton and Missouri. City slickers get busy at www.urbanphoto.net.
