Man bites dog

No blood for candy

There are many reasons why the horror of war is declared. Sadly, the reasons are often related to simple greed.

Attendees at the 2006 Wood Dale, Illinois, Memorial Day Parade, thinking they’d be honouring the fallen, instead got a close-up lesson on violent conflict as two sisters descended into barbarism over delicious Twizzlers licorice.

It would be easy to blame the candy company for being so foolish as to throw out free Twizzlers in a hotbed of insurgency like Wood Dale, but police are instead blaming Pamela and Joyce Majdan, aged 23 and 31 respectively. Witnesses say the two began arguing over who had caught more pieces of the coveted licorice sticks, when suddenly they became a blur of fists and rage. Officers along the parade route were told of the fight and stepped in to pull the two women apart.

Wood Dale Deputy Police Chief Greg Vesta says both women were uncooperative during their arrest and, surprisingly, neither was drunk or high.
