“So what’s it going to be, then, eh?” |

Before we get started here, I’ll throw a big bone out to my predecessor, Raf Katigbak, whose clever advice clued me and many others in on some fantastic shakedowns, and inspired me to get my own raspy voice in the bad-influence column world. Raf will be seen this weekend in his super-villainous form, Dr. Octoboobies, spinning at a fresh party on the scene. While the event in question, appropriately monikered Aoutch!, certainly calls for a nice pair of underwear, organizer DJ Maüs warns me that the clientele might be best off cutting to the chase and wearing no undergarments at all. This Saturday, April 8, is the debut edition at Club Soda, featuring live performances by local fiends Frigid and Lesbians on Ecstasy, dishing out dance-friendly glamour and whip-cracking beats. On top of that, the chaotic, inspired noise of Dandi Wind (who was evidently seen jumping around on speakers to near death-by-way-of-ceiling-fan-decapitation last week at Lederhosen Lucil’s A Night Aquatic) will be pleasantly scouring the receptors of attendees. The perfect after-Yeah Yeah Yeahs destination, going on till 3 in the morn’. If that’s not enough for ya, Aoutch! events will be showcasing forward-thinking fashion, such as Elaine Ho’s cute-but-evil Roadkill collection (www.roadkillroadkill.com). Check it out. On that note, the latest Women on Wax party, Wednesday, April 12, at Salon Daomé, boasts a Preloved Fashion giveaway to the best dancer. However, given WOW’s tendency to draw a mean posse of rug-cutters, “best” might be a tough status to garner in the dance-off. Previous parties have included clowns smashing construction materials on each other, unreal breakdancing and consistently fun, interesting crowds. Egyptian war-goddess Sekhmet will be soaring in on a desert wind from Vermont to lay down some fiery drum & bass vengeance, while the Women (Rue, Cyan and Jasmine) will be spinning their eclectic electric, ranging through breaks, dancehall, 2step, house and whatever else they have stuffed in their handbags. Plenty of bang for your five bucks. As for tonight, the SAT’s usual cinq-a-sept Thursday MixSessions will be infiltrated by the live electro sounds of Alice and the Serial Numbers, Banditos and Oeuf Korrect. This is your chance to frig around in the free-of-charge electric-scooter park (!?). They may not be skateboards, but who can resist zipping around the SAT to live tunes and VJs? Starts at 7 p.m., don’t cost a red cent. REAL HORRORSHOW! jack.oatmon@gmail.com |
