You know a movie or TV show has reached a very special level of fandom when the DVD box set includes some sort of sculpture, like the bust of Neo that accompanies the Matrix set, or the Cylon head that contains the original Battlestar Galactica collection. So it’s only appropriate that one of the most fan-tastic cult phenomena ever, Planet of the Apes, is available in a new “Ultimate DVD Collection” housed inside none other than a sculpture of Cornelius’s head. The lovingly rendered cranium contains 14 discs, including every Apes movie (even the Tim Burton turkey), the entire live-action TV show, the entire animated TV show and a bonus disc with tons of special features. That’s in addition to all the special features you get with the individual discs, (which are too numerous to mention here), but fans should take note that disc six boasts the never-before-released-on-DVD extended version of Battle for the Planet of the Apes. The set’s only available in a limited edition of 10,000 so move fast if you want to get a “head start” on your fellow fanboys! —Mark Slutsky
