Blue nights |

people, including myself, who were so wasted while wandering from one cultural event to another in sub-zero temperatures, we didn’t even realize we had frostbite. But hey, I’m not complaining. This is Montreal after all, and in fact I was impressed—scratch that, I was actually proud to see so many locals giving ol’ Jack Frost the single-finger salute in the name of celebrating arts (completely crunked). Speaking of drunken celebration, expect some revelry of Dionysian proportions as this week, Junglist Fridays celebrates six whole freakin’ years of bringing the choons to the Plateau. Of course, there will be some Hank Williams Jr.-style tears in the beers, as it also marks the final chapter of the Blue Dog weekly. There’ll be a two-on-two DJ battle all night long, featuring all the current residents, and a special “looking back” closing set from resident and DJ mastermind Stabba that just screams “misty, slow-mo photo montage.” “Camo, lighters, air horns, sweat and rewinds are to be expected,” says Stabba. Let’s hope some dubwise junglist will see this as an opportunity to carry the torch and set St-Laurent ablaze with another solid weekly D&B soirée. Or perhaps Junglist Fridays could take a tip from Voyeur, who ended their long-running Saturday nights at Blizzarts to become a monthly party at the SAT. Last month’s Tommie Sunshine shindig was off the chain, with over 700 people attending. This Saturday, it’s a local affair, hosted by the ever-congenial Emmanuelle with Jordan Dare, Romeo Kardec and Sean Kosa behind the decks. Over at Zoobizarre on Saturday, Montreal’s noisy glitch-fiends Intercom release their album AAAAAAA with Blake Hargreaves (from Dreamcatcher), Shoebomber and DJ Maïté providing backup with their own audio maximum-ness. This Wednesday, March 8, Lion d’Or will play host to another installment of Blink Blinkblink, the live electro-classical affair composed by McGill jazz graduate Ben Shemie for chamber ensemble (two cellos, two violas, three violins) with soprano voice. Those who have yet to witness the lush and haunting melodies of Blink BlinkBlink need to go and check this out. Arrive early to catch the “short but sweet” drum & bass set with live drummer Mike Shulha. Wednesday also happens to be International Women’s Day, and Women on Wax will be at Salon Daomé to represent. Miss Molly, Ruby Jane, DJ Jasmine, Cyan and DJ Rue will be flexing their Technics, as the Solid State b-girl crew and VJ Beewoo provide the eye candy. Five bucks at the door.
