The new music |

by SCOTT C
DJ Static gets around. Not because he’s easy, but because he never stops working. You can catch him Sunday, Feb. 26, when his hip hop group Nomadic Massive finally launches their new EP Nomad’s Land, for all those who’ve been waiting and asking and bugging out in anticipation. The show is at Café Campus and starts at 9 p.m., with locals Atach Tatuq and Toronto’s Kamau sharing the stage for the big night. Tix are $10 at the door, and CDs will be on sale on site. Also on Sunday, you can catch the final installment of Dreams, Youngstar Records’ performance series at the Main Hall. This week, it’s Project Lockdown, featuring Preach and the Truth, Manchilde of the Butta Babies, Aka Soulo, Andy Williams and the Black Temple Sound Crew. Tix are $7 before 8 p.m. and $10 after, so grab that Sunday dinner early. Starting Tuesday, Feb. 28, the Peer Pressure Crew will try to tackle the early part of the week with a regular night at Blizzarts called the Funky Field Trip. The night stars the always capable DJ Static and a host of guests from week to week. While you’re enjoying the funk, classic hip hop, disco and new jack swing, check for DL and Butta Beats if you’re looking for drink tickets, ’cause I sure as hell didn’t get any. Nice to see my mailbox filling up with all kinds of new local music over the last while, notably a CD from Stealth Mode Productions hip hop outfit Black Sash. Chapter 1: The Forbidden Zone assembles some impressive talent, both on the mic and on the beats, but you’ll hear more about that later. Check www.stealthmodeproduction.com for more details and lots of music. Peep the video for “Right Here” too, it’s pro. Also rocking new music from acoustic soul duo Sabrina and Giorgio, who are well on their way to becoming household names around these parts, with their blend of easy soul vocals and acoustic guitar and percussion. And if you’re interested in the self-proclaimed “rebirth of English hip hop in Montreal,” then make a bee-line to www.labnoise.com and check out all kinds of goodies from Magnum 357 and the infamous Black Mob. I’ve got no music from them yet, but I’m sure it’s on its way, right, Richy? Big-ups to Slangblossom MC Daybi, who dropped by the Jay Dee tribute last Wednesday at Kunta to pass me a preview of his new solo LP. You’ll be hearing a little more about that one very soon too. Keep it coming, people! THE GOODS @ SALA THIS SATURDAY... fathead@videotron.ca |
